Description Scrapers Belt Conveyors
Scrapers are an essential component of belt conveyors for bulk materials.
The top side of the belt is cleaned with a scraper on and/or directly after the drive pulley. The inner side of the belt is cleaned on the return section just before the tail pulley.
Primary scraper
A scraper is pressed against the belt using rubber spring elements.
This can be positioned directly on the pulley at approximately 60° to the horizontal and/or directly after the pulley, where the belt can move freely.
The best performance is achieved by applying both scrapers: a primary scraper and a secondary scraper.
The scraper blades can consist of multiple shorter segments or a single long strip.
In most cases, scraper blades are made of soft or hard plastic. For scraping sticky materials, steel scraper blades often perform better.
Plough scraper
The V-shaped plough scraper prevents coarse particles and contamination from entering between the belt and the return pulley, which could contaminate the pulley and cause belt tracking issues.
Good to know
There is no ideal scraper. Some level of environmental contamination will always occur. For each situation, the most effective scraper configuration should be selected.
